Kai finally reached the dorm and Matt was hiding as a rabbit in one of Kai’s pockets. Ringo’s side of the room was a mess, but Kai knew how to sort through it.

“Ah.” Ushida stopped as she walked up the staircase, visibly startled. Ringo asked what’s wrong.

Once alone with Ringo and Kai, Ushida was as mischievous as always. “You know, I didn’t think I’d be getting two bodyguards.” Her legs playfully dangled from her tall bed.

Breakfast for the majority of the castle’s staff was served before the Royal Family’s wake-up time. Today’s meal was eggs, potatoes, fruit salad, with a glass bottle of fresh milk. The castle’s staff was populated by many different species, and all of them seemed to be in outstanding physical condition.

Ringo was a short man with a poofy, pink ponytail. ‘It makes me look taller,’ he’d argue, whenever he was told to cut it. Luckily, the Cow Kingdom Military didn’t impose a strict dress code.

On top of the windmill, Matt was using the tip of his dragon tongue to slide off Ushida’s dress. “Nooo~! The dragon is eating my clothes!” Ushida let out a scream that Kai recognized. It was similar to the one he heard in the forest.

The ceremony was followed by a dinner in the Royal Family’s private garden.

“We are gathered here today to promote Kai Senno to personal bodyguard.”

A voice came from the bushes. It belonged to Matt, the Half-Dragon. “Um… Hey, is everything okay?”

Many of the knights found that patrolling the Forest of Moss was, to put it nicely, a mundane, monotonous, and altogether lonely task. It was usually assigned to the troublemakers, slackers, and other types of underachievers. If they were lax in their duties, they would not endanger anyone. Kai, meanwhile, had eagerly requested it.

If you asked Senno Kai to describe himself, he would say that he’s normal, that he’s always been normal, and that he would continue to be normal. The opinions of his colleagues ranged from “He’s a nerd (Said with affection)” to “He’s annoying (Said with disdain).”
